[Venice, the 2nd of March 2017] –185 days are left before the beginning of the “2017 ICF Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championships in Venice”. This great international event will take place in the lagoon from the 3rd to the 8th of September and it will be presented to the citizenry tomorrow, Friday the 3rd of March at 6 p.m. in Venice at the auditorium Città Metropolitana di Venezia. This world championships will celebrate the historical relationship between Venice and China.
The Dragon Boat was born in China over 2000 years ago and today has spread all over the world as a competitive sport and as a leisure activity. Races are performed on 20-seat or 10-seat boats which have a dragon head and tail, a helmsman who steers the boat acting also as a tactician and a drummer who gives the rhythm to the paddlers.
The Organising Committee formed by the Venice Canoe & Dragon Boat ASD association is working to realise a great sport and culture event in which anybody can take part. Beside the Club Crews competitions, will also take place races in the following categories: Breast Cancer Survivors, Students, Social and Corporates.
Up to now 780 athletes and 34 clubs from 13 different countries have already registered. We are glad to see also a great adhesion of Junior (15-18 years old) crews. More than 2000 participants are expected to take part in the event, alongside 1000 supporters.
At the official presentation of the ICF Dragon Boat World Championships, Bruno Panziera, president of the regional canoe and kayak committee will speak, together with Andrea Bedin, president of the Organising Commitee.
