(Venice, 25th May 2017) – This will be the very first debut of a great international paddling event, in the water city for excellence. This event, held for the first time in Venice, is attracting, with months in advance, thousands of participants from all over the world.

The Venetian capital will be the unrivaled scenario, from the 3rd to the 8th September 2017, of the “ICF Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championships – Venice 2017”, an important event which will be held under the banner of the International Canoe Federation (ICF) and will attract to the lagoon city about 3,000 participants between athletes and followers, coming (to date) from 16 countries, in addition to Italy, and representing 47 Clubs.

«We are working very hard to give the city an event that is stimulating in all aspects, and worthy of Venice and its territory – said Andrea Bedin, president of the Organizing Committee of Venice Canoe and Dragon Boat –. The visibility will be enormous, not only for those supporting the World Championships, but also for those actively engaged. The race venues will be at the Tronchetto and the Arsenale, we know how difficult it is to bring a World Championships’ edition to the heart of the island city. In this regard we are much more responsible and motivated, considering that this will be the first World Championship – for sports such as rowing, canoe and dragon boat – organized in Venice».

The ICF Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championships – Venice 2017 were designed with the aim of attracting all water sports enthusiasts, not just the most competitive teams.

«In addition to the competitive crews, racing classes will also include the “Breast Cancer Survivors” (or Pink Ladies), “Students” and “Corporate” confirming the fact that the World Championships intends to be a moment of great celebration and socialization – added Mr Bedin –. A special merit note goes to the crews of the “Pink Ladies”, who are the ladies who have been operated for breast cancer and who use the dragon boat discipline as a rehabilitation activity and a moment of unity because “unity is strength” and “we all are on the same boat”, as the dragon boat slogan recites».
