Venice, 4th September 2017 – Yesterday, Sunday 3rd September, the first “tasting” with the participation of three mixed dragon boat crews to the parade of that great spectacle called “Historical Regatta”. Today afternoon the parade of the delegations with their flags in the wind along the Venetian streets, until the expected inaugural ceremony in the “heart” of Campo Santa Margherita.
It is started this way the adventure of the “ICF Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championships – Venice 2017” that, from tomorrow to Friday 8th September, will see 1,600 athletes (Junior, Senior and Master, Students, Social, Corporate and Breast Cancer Survivors) on the dragon boats (20 seats) and minidragons (10 seats), competing to the beat of the drum and to the paddle strokes. On the 6 lanes prepared on the waters between the Tronchetto island (headquarter of the event) and the Ponte della Libertà – connecting the insular city to the Venetian mainland – we will start on Tuesday 5th from 8:30 am (until about 5:00 pm) with the qualifying rounds on the 500 meters distance; on Wednesday it will be the moment of the short distance (200 meters), that will be protagonist on Thursday; then on Friday the great final in the Arsenale basin, an elliptical circuit with straights and boa rounds, on the distance of 2,000 meters with chase races and after these races, finally, the closing ceremony.
To the “ICF Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championships – Venice 2017” – organized from the Venice Canoe & Dragon Boat under the banner of the International Canoe Federation (ICF) and patronized by the City of Venice, the Veneto Region and the President of the Council of Ministers – will be attended crews coming from China, Philippines, Great Britain, Germany, Hong Kong, Iran, Italy, Moldova, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Swiss, Ukraine, Hungary, United States and Sweden.
