Venice, 5th September 2017 – First international paddle strokes at the “ICF Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championships – Venice 2017”, started today in Venice. The first day of the great event, hosted for the first time in the water city for excellence, saw the clubs coming from 16 countries competing on the 500 meters: forty five has been the races disputed today on the waters of the Tronchetto island, on dragon boats (20 seats) and minidragons (10 seats) – Junior, Senior and Master, Students and Social.

The only downside has been the low tide that, in the afternoon, caused a delay in the embarking of the crews, with the organizers forced – despite them – to postpone to Tuesday about fifteen races, included the only two finals of the day with the Corporate and the Pink Ladies “Breast Cancer Survivors”, understandably bitter because of the forced postponement and to which the Organizing Committee expressed a sincere solidarity for the inconvenience.

DSC_4137Tomorrow, Wednesday 6th September (from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm about) there will be the finals of the 500 meters and the first challenges on the sprint distance (200 meters), that will be protagonist of the whole day of Thursday 7th September on the Tronchetto waters. On Friday 8th September the closing day on the waters of the Arsenale of Venice, where the crews will chase themselves in an elliptical circuit of 2,000 meters (after these last races, there will be the closing ceremony).

A World Championships where the spirit of aggregation and the passion for the paddle will triumph: “It is such an honor to be here in Venice – said Shoken Narika (member of the International Canoe Federation) and Luciano Buonfiglio (president of the Italian Canoe Kayak Federation) – for an appointment and a discipline that favorite with great enthusiasm the integration and the friendship among men, women and young coming from all over the world, confirming this way that the dragon boat is growing day by day”.
